Guardian Home Program
More Info...
To ensure our breeding dogs enjoy the best possible life, we prioritize limiting the number of dogs we keep in our own home. However, to maintain and enhance the quality of our breeding program, it's crucial to continually assess and incorporate high-quality bloodlines. So, how do we strike this balance? For us and fellow breeders, the solution lies in our Guardian Home Program. This unique initiative allows us to expand our breeding efforts ethically by placing our breeding dogs in loving Guardian Homes, where each dog becomes a cherished family member.
To be eligible as a Guardian Home, you should reside within a 90-minute radius of Lawton, OK, and be flexible regarding drop-off and pick-up schedules for health testing, vet visits, breeding, and whelping.
As a Guardian Home, you'll have the privilege of welcoming a high-quality, pick-of-the-litter puppy into your home, and this puppy will become a permanent member of your family. It's important to note that Nova’s Minidoodles will retain breeding rights for the dog. For female dogs, this arrangement begins at sexual maturity and concludes after the female has given birth to four litters. Male dogs typically have longer contracts and are bred on an "as needed" basis.
During the dog's time in our breeding program, Nova’s Minidoodles covers all expenses related to breeding. Guardian Homes are responsible for standard "pet" expenses and upkeep, including professional grooming, dog food, pet-related vet visits (following Nova’s Minidoodles guidelines for vaccinations and parasite prevention), training, and more (see bullet list below).
Once a dog successfully completes its health testing, Nova’s Minidoodles determines when and with whom the dog will be bred. Female dogs remain with their Guardian Families during pregnancy (approximately 63 days), returning to us a few days before their due date (around day 52) to deliver and raise their puppies. After the puppies are weaned, usually around 6-7 weeks of age, the female dog can return home to her Guardian Family. When a dog fulfills its breeding responsibilities, we cover the cost of spaying/neutering and transfer ownership of the dog to you, so they can enjoy the wonderful life you've provided since puppyhood.
Guardian Families should be prepared for various considerations. Guardians of females will need to manage multiple heat cycles and ensure their dog is protected from unwanted males. They should also be comfortable with extended separation from their dog (typically 2-3 months per litter) and learn to recognize the signs of a heat cycle. Cooperation and communication with us are essential for a successful breeding. For male dogs, mating can only occur with approved females, so Guardians must ensure their dog is kept away from intact females to prevent unintended litters.
We view our Guardian Home Program as a mutually beneficial arrangement. Guardian Families receive a top-tier puppy at a low cost, and in return, they collaborate with Nova's Minidoodles during the dog's breeding years. This way, we ensure our breeding dogs live as beloved family members.
